Recently CRBBG participated Shanghai Zhejiang Road Bridge Repair Project won 2015 Shanghai Construction Engineering Metal Structure (Civic Quality Project) Golden Steel Award.
Zhejiang Road Bridge is built in 1908 and changed to this name in 1943. Same as the Waibaidu Bridge, it is a hundred year old bridge. As the crucial passage connecting north and south bank of Suzhou River, this bridge has fish-bellied steel truss for superstructure and gravity abutment with timber piles foundation for substructure. The whole bridge looks like a fishbone without the flesh from the side, thus it gets the formal name of Fish-Bellied Steel-Timber Truss Bridge.
The repair work undertaken by CRBBG started on May 30, 2015 by monolithically moving the bridge to the maintenance plant which is at about 100m to the north of the bridge site. On October 18, 2015, the bridge was transported to the water surface of Suzhou River by pontoon and was completely replaced finally. This repair followed the principle of "Restoring the old as the old" and restored the doorframed bridgehead in 1908. The repaired Zhejiang Road Bridge not only reduced about 200 tons of weight, but also became lighter and more secured. It is anticipated to be on service for 50 years more.
