The Outstanding Structure Award Committee of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE) decided recently to present the 2014 Outstanding Structural Engineering Award, the top award recognized by the international civil engineering field, to the project of Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge. The committee appraised that Taizhou Bridge made a new breakthrough of spanning super-long distance in engineering construction, and leaded a new age of construction of continuous super-long suspension bridge with multi-tower. It was another international award gained by Taizhou Bridge after the Supreme Award for Structural Engineering Excellence, the 2013 top award presented by the Institution of Structural Engineers in London.

Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge, with its steel towers and steel box girders fabricated by CRBBG, was completed and open to traffic on November 25, 2012. Its main bridge spanning Yangtze River created five world records among the super-long span bridges, i.e., the 2x1,080m super-long span three-tower and two-span suspension bridge —— the first kilometer level multi-tower suspension bridge in the world; the world's first steel tower with longitudinal herringbone and transverse portal frame —— the 192m height corresponded to a buiding of 60 floors and the total weight of steelwork was up to 12,000 tons; the 70m sinking depth of the foundation of middle tower took the first in the world; the 3,100m length of W-shape main cable through three towers took the first in the world; and the technology of simultaneous and symmetrical lifting of steel box girders for two-span suspension bridge took the first in the world.

CRBBG undertook the fabrication of 12,000 tons of steel towers and 18,000 tons of steel box girders in the construction of Taizhou Yangtze River Bridge. The contract price was about 470 million yuan totally. In which, the middle tower with a height of 192m and a weight of 12,000 tons was worthy of the name "China's First Heavy Tower".
