Recently the major panel point at pier No.4 for the navigable span of Hutong Yangtze River Bridge was installed in place, and the tighting of high strength bolts for the major panel point and the bearing has been completed. At the same time, the erection of steel girders at pier No.3 was steadily progressing, which indicated that the bidirectional splicing of special navigable span of Hutong Yangtze River Bridge began.
As the control project of the newly-built Hutong (Shanghai-Nantong) railways, Hutong Yangtze River Bridge is located at 45km of lower reaches of Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge and 40km of upper reaches of Sutong Yangtze River Bridge. It is the shared passage for Tongsujia (Nantong-Suzhou-Jiaxing) intercity railways and Xitong (Wuxi-Nantong) expressway. It will be the combined cable-stayed bridge with the greatest span in the world as well as the first kilometer-span combined bridge in the world. It will only take approximate one hour from downtown Nantong to downtown Shanghai when the bridge is completed. CRBBG has undertaken fabrication of about 50,000 tons of steel girder in this project.
