The Fabrication and Acceptance Rules and Welding Procedure Qualification (WPQ) test of steelwork for Wajiatan Yellow River Grand Bridge on Yashiga-Tongren expressway passed the review on May 16. The meeting considered that the Fabrication Rules for Wajiatan Yellow River Bridge prepared by CRBBG was complete and practicable, and after proper perfection, it could instruct fabrication and field construction of steelwork for this bridge; and the welding processes, welding materials, and groove types used in the WPQ test were proper and could be considered as the basis for the next procedure qualification test.

Wajiatan Yellow River Grand Bridge is the first long span double tower cable-stayed bridge in Qinghai Province as well as the cable-stayed bridge with the longest span in northwest region. The total weight of the bridge is about 17,000 tons. Spanning Yellow River and connecting Hualong Autonomous County of Hui Nationality and Jianzha County on both sides, the bridge is one of the control projects of Yashiga-Tongren section of Zhangye-Wenchuan Expressway, which is a part of the national expressway network. The length of the bridge is 1,000m and of main span 560m. The main tower is designed as H shape. The superstructure uses reinforced concrete superposed beams, and the bridge deck is 40m high from the river surface. It adopts the expressway standard of two-way four-lane. The fabrication and erection period is 30 months and the bridge is anticipated to be completed in 2017.
