Recently, China Highway & Transportation Society has announced that the list of winners of the 2022 BIM Innovation Award for Traffic Engineering, and the “Forward design and digital construction of Dongguan Binhaiwan Bridge” which was declared by CRBBG won the first prize.

Dongguan Binhaiwan Bridge is the world’s first bridge with a steel shell concrete main tower, and it is also a single-tower twisted- cable cable-stayed bridge with the longest span and the widest deck in China. Its main tower is shaped like the flower-magnolia flower of Dongguan City, with a total height of 149.8m, and the tower body was divided into 32 sections along the vertical direction. CRBBG undertook the manufacture of the steel box girders of the main bridge and the steel shells of the cable tower, with a project volume of about 21,000 tons, as well as their construction at bridge site.

The section of steel shell is a circular curve and the tower adopts the fitting method of a seventh power curve in its height direction. The main part of the shell is of saddle shape. As for such an extremely complex structure of the steel tower, CRBBG adopts BIM digital model design, develops advanced and reasonable manufacturing scheme, and uses applicable and effective manufacturing technology.
