On May 16, along with No.22222 freight train slowly running through the bridge, the Yellow River Bridge for Zhengzhou-Jiaozuo intercity railways, jointly constructed by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group, China Railway Seventh Group and CRBBG, was officially open to traffic, which indicated that the Yellow River Bridge for Beijing-Guangzhou railways which had been on service for 54 years was officially retired, and the newly-built Yellow River Bridge for Zhengzhou-Jiaozuo intercity railways would take on the important task of connecting north and south arterial railways in China.

Located at more than a hundred meters of lower reaches of the existing Yellow River Bridge for Beijing-Guangzhou railways, it is a four-line railway bridge shared by both Zhengzhou-Jiaozuo intercity railways and the relocated Beijing-Guangzhou railways. The construction of the bridge started from October 15, 2010 and it is the first as well as the only railway bridge with four lines at present.

The original Yellow River Bridge for Beijing-Guangzhou railways was open to traffic in 1960, which was on the arterial line for passenger and freight transportation between north and south of Yellow River and had played an important role in China's economic development and construction. However, with the acceleration of economic development, this bridge could not meet the demand of continuously upgraded speed, density and load of railways in recent years and had become a bottleneck for Beijing-Guangzhou railway transportation.

CRBBG undertook shop fabrication and field erection of 40,089 tons of steel trusses in the bridge construction, and the project started at the beginning of 2012. CRBBG had participated seven large steel structural bridges over the Yellow River.

At the end of this year, the Zhengzhou-Jiaozuo intercity train will run on this bridge and only half an hour is needed for transportation between the two cities. A "twin-city life" will be realized for Zhengzhou and Jiaozuo at that time.
